Before post-consumer recycled PET (rPET) packaging became popular, Placon was extruding and thermoforming the material into our popular stock lines of retail plastic clamshells to help mitigate our dependence on virgin, petroleum-based materials. To continue pushing advancements in recycling plastic bottles and thermoforms with the #1 resin identification symbol, we opened our own state-of-the-art PET recycling facility next to our Madison headquarters in 2011.
Look for the EcoStar logo
Each year our facility grinds, washes and extrudes over 1 billion post-consumer recycled PET bottles and thermoforms and turns them into new non-food and FDA LNO food-grade PCR PET extruded rollstock for thermoforming applications. Look for our EcoStar logo on many of our products including the majority of our stock food plastic packaging containers.
EcoStar recycling video tour
Take a look inside our Fitchburg, WI PET bottle and thermoform recycling facility. Watch how discarded, post-consumer water, soda bottles and plastic containers are turned into flake and extruded into rollstock to be sold and thermoformed back into PET packaging, creating a continuous, sustainable closed loop.
Eliminating landfill waste
Placon diverts over 120,000 pounds of plastic PET water and soda bottles from landfills every day with over 1 billion plastic bottles and thermoform containers recycled and converted into our EcoStar line of food and non-food grade PET rollstock every year.Learn more about Placon sustainability
Reducing resource dependence
EcoStar was founded with the belief that the recycling of existing plastic PET packaging, thereby conserving natural resources, is the most responsible solution for the preservation of resources and reduction of PET containers as landfill waste.Learn more about our Closed Loop Vision
