Placon is Proud to Announce its AmeriStar Win for the Gillette® Fusion® ProGlide® with FLEXBALL™ and DuPont Silver for the Venus® Swirl™ with FLEXIBALL™

Madison, WI. (June 29, 2015) – An innovative designer, thermoformer and injection molder of plastic packaging for the retail, medical and food markets, Placon is proud to announce its fourth Institute of Packaging Professionals (IOPP) AmeriStar award win in three years. The IOPP competition honors excellence in packaging in a number of diverse areas from innovation, product protection to marketing and environmental impact. Placon is also honored to receive its second DuPont award in three years.

The 2015 AmeriStar win was awarded to Placon and P&G Gillette’s Pack Dev team’s intriguingly unique Fusion ProGlide with FLEXBALL packaging design. Using complex matched metal tooling, Placon created a perforation around the perimeter of the thermoformed PET blister which is heat sealed to a paperboard insert. Consumers can use the pull tab at the top of the package to separate the PET blister along the perforation in one smooth and easy motion.

In a separate operation, Placon applies two pressure-sensitive film labels to the clear blister. The final thermoform is designed to fully integrate with Gillette’s high speed automated manufacturing process.

“We continue to be challenged by Gillette’s PackDev team to come up with packaging designs and thermoforming techniques that work with their ultimate design vision,” stated Mike Knight, national sales manager for Placon. “The result is packaging that is created to be impactful on the shelf, protective and easy to open while making sense economically.”

Placon was also a recipient of a 2015 DuPont Silver award for the Gillette Venus® Swirl™ with FLEXIBALL™. The unique package developed in collaboration with Gillette and think4D Inc. utilizes the intricate thermoforming technology introduced in the Venus & Olay package design which received a DuPont Gold award in 2013. “It’s a great honor to be recognized alongside the Gillette Pack Dev team by both the IOPP and DuPont for creative packaging design that is truly cutting edge,” stated Laura Stewart, VP of sales and marketing, Placon.
